There once was a noble and devoted ruler, King Kulashekhara, whose love for Lord Rama knew no bounds. Whenever the Ramayana was narrated to him, he would become completely absorbed in the story, losing all sense of time and place. His devotion was so intense that whenever he heard about Ravana abducting Mother Sita, he could not control his emotions. Overcome with divine love, he would order his ministers to prepare for battle, ready to march against Ravana himself.
Realizing this, his ministers instructed the storytellers to avoid mentioning Sita’s abduction while narrating the Ramayana. For a time, this method worked. However, one day, when a saint’s son narrated the Sitaharan episode, King Kulashekhara was deeply moved once again. He immediately declared, “Today, I will not spare Ravana!” Without hesitation, he mounted his horse and charged toward the ocean, believing he was on his way to Lanka.
Despite several attempts to stop him, King Kulashekhara remained unstoppable. Just as he was about to be swallowed by the waves, Lord Rama himself appeared with Mother Sita and said, “We have already won the war, and Sita is safe.” Only then did the king regain his senses and return to his palace.
This inspiring story of King Kulashekhara teaches us that when devotion is pure and unwavering, the Lord himself appears. Worship God with all your heart, and he will always be with you.
