Escape the Desire Trap: A Powerful Lesson from Bhasmasur

You must have heard the story of your Bhasmasur, if you haven’t then listen to it. A demon named Bhasmasur did deep tapasya to please Lord Shiva and asked for a boon from him that whoever he places his hand on his head will turn into ashes. Lord Shiva granted the boon, but as soon as he got it, he fell into the Desire Trap. Instead of using his power wisely, he became blinded by desire and started following Shiva ji to burn him. Shiva ji, while running, went to Lord Vishnu and told him everything. Then Vishnu ji took the form of Mohini and came in front of Bhasmasur. Bhasmasur was fascinated on seeing him and proposed to marry him. Then Mohini Roopi Vishnu ji said that he would marry only the one who knows how to dance. He said okay and started dancing with him. And while dancing, he put his hand on his own head and was burnt.

This is called Desire Trap. The meaning of this saying is that a person’s memory gets blurred on the day he starts getting involved in the world of bhog. Therefore, if you want to achieve something in life, keep Bhagwad Gita in your hand before reading all the books, this is the key to success which no one else in the world can give.

Hare Krishna.
