True devotion is not just about practice; it comes from within. If devotion is not present in the heart, no amount of effort can make someone a true devotee. Let us understand this through a story. There was a devotee in Vrindavan named Lala Babu. He was a wealthy landlord and known for his charitable deeds. Later, he renounced his wealth and became a devotee. His Guru then instructed him to go from house to house and beg for alms. Lala Babu followed his Guru’s command, but every day, when he returned, his Guru would say, “You are not yet humble. When you truly become humble, I will initiate you.” Lala Babu was confused. He had already given up all his possessions—why did his Guru still say this? After some reflection, he realized that while he begged for alms from many houses, he always avoided the homes of his opponents. Understanding his mistake, he went to their houses as well. That day, when he returned, his Guru said, “Now, you have truly become humble. The arrogance within you has disappeared.” This story teaches us that as long as we hold on to even a little ego, we can never be truly humble or attain true devotion. Only when we surrender completely, without pride or hesitation, do we become true devotees. Hare Krishna! Follow Us:- Instagram Youtube LinkedIn
